29 before 29

29 Before 29: A Journey of Self-Discovery

As I approach my 29th birthday, I’ve found myself reflecting on the past year and the lessons it has taught me. It’s been a whirlwind of experiences, both joyous and challenging, that have shaped who I am today. Grateful for the losses, thankful for the gains. Right now, I'm just laying everything down at the feet of Jesus and surrendering everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen in the future.

Here are 29 realizations I’ve made before turning 29:

  1. Self-love is the foundation of everything. Prioritize your well-being, both physical and mental.
  2. It’s okay to say no. Don’t overcommit yourself; learn to set boundaries. A tough pill to swallow but we need to learn how to do this as early as now.
  3. Comparison is the thief of joy. Focus on your own journey, not someone else’s.
  4. The past is in the past. Don't be chained by past regrets and disappointments.
  5. Small steps lead to big changes. What you do today (even the simple things) will greatly impact your future.
  6. Gratitude is a powerful tool. Practice gratitude daily to shift your perspective.
  7. Your worth is not defined by your accomplishments. You are valuable, regardless of your achievements.
  8. It’s never too late to start over. Or learn new things.
  9. Surround yourself with positive people. Your environment shapes your mindset, so it's important to be with people who care about you and your well-being.
  10. Take care of your mental health. Prioritize self-care and seek help when needed.
  11. Give yourself grace and be kind to yourself. Let go of thinking you always have it all together. Allow yourself to make mistakes and be kind to yourself when you fail.
  12. Embrace your imperfections. They make you unique and beautiful.
  13. The only person you can control is yourself.
  14. Time is precious. Use it wisely and do what you love.
  15. Travel broadens your horizons. Explore new places and cultures.
  16. Learn to adapt to change. Flexibility is key to navigating life’s uncertainties.
  17. Don’t be afraid to take risks. Step outside of your comfort zone and embrace the unknown.
  18. It's OK to not have everything. Comparing yourself to others will lead to resentment.
  19. Don't just plan - do!
  20. The most important relationships are the ones that add value to your life.
  21. Invest in quality products. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it will last long.
  22. Practice mindfulness to stay present. Be fully engaged in the moment.
  23. Stop buying things you don't need. Think it over a hundred times before you purchase anything.
  24. Invest in yourself. Continuously learn and grow.
  25. Your happiness is your responsibility. Don’t rely on others to make you happy.
  26. Limit social media usage. Spend more time in the real world.
  27. Find a hobby that brings you joy.
  28. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. It’s a sign of strength, not weakness.
  29. Life is a journey, not a destination. Enjoy the ride.

It's so easy to compare ourselves or our current situations to others, especially what we see on social media. I'm learning to be patient with myself, even more now that I have entered motherhood. The past year has taught me so much, and I've also realized how easy it is for us to dismiss our growth because of our temporary setbacks. But we've survived another year, so I'm grateful and looking forward to another.

Can't believe I'm entering a new era next year!
